Hair removal with Laser/IPL

Laser treatment – or IPL (intense pulsed light) – is a safe and effective method of long-lasting hair removal. All skin types can be treated, and hair of virtually all colours can be removed in a virtually painless manner.

Kliniek aan de Maas is specialized in hair removal with laser/IPL. All treatments are performed in the safest possible way and with the best quality materials. Our employees are continuously trained to maintain their knowledge and skills. You have questions about a treatment? Make an appointment and ask your questions in a free consultation.

Function

The treatment is carried out by means of IPL. IPL stands for intense pulsed light, and as the name suggests makes use of light. The light is converted into heat in the hair sacs (follicles). This heat destroys the hair sacs. IPL is suitable for dark hairs on light skin. For people with darker skin, light-coloured hairs, and/or thin hairs, there is the Super Hair Removal technique (SHR). This can also be used when a virtually painless treatment is sought.

Application

IPL removes unwanted hair.

Before treatment

Before treatment starts, an initial appointment is scheduled, free of charge, to determine the areas to be treated and the treatment method. You will also be informed about the care before and after the treatment concerned.   An IPL treatment works on the basis of pigment. For this reason, it is important not to sunbathe for six weeks prior to the treatment. The same applies to the use of spray tan and self-tanning creams. If you want to remove hairs yourself in the six weeks leading up to the IPL treatment, you should cut or shave them; waxing or epilating reduces the effect of the treatment. If you want to sunbathe in the period leading up to the treatment, you should opt for the SHR hair removal technique.[:de]Er wordt niet meer gesproken over permanent ontharen, maar over duurzaam ontharen. Aftercare

There is no aftercare needed. Your skin can feel red and sensitized for a short period. Approximately two weeks after the treatment, the hairs that were in the right growth phase during the treatment will fall out. Not all hairs will be in the right growth phase at the same time. That’s why you need multiple treatments for a full result. The number of treatments you will need depends on your hair growth and the hair removal area.

Duration

The treatment will last between 5 and 120 minutes. This depends on the extensiveness of the treatment.

Results

The result becomes visible after a few treatments. The final result is achieved after an average of six to ten treatments at six-week intervals. We recommend one repeat treatment per year after that as new hair sacs can form.

Safety

This treatment has been used for decades and has been proven to be safe when performed by a practitioner with the appropriate knowledge and experience.

Pain

The hair removal area is treated with light. The IPL treatment can feel like tiny elastic bands shooting against the skin. The SHR method is virtually painless.

Is the result permanent?

We no longer talk about permanent hair removal but rather about long-lasting hair removal. New hair sacs can develop after a while. In some cases it may be necessary to schedule a repeat treatment once a year.

That’s why you need multiple treatments for a full result. The number of treatments you will need depends on your hair growth and the hair removal area.

Is the treatment suitable for everyone?

No, 7 to 9% of people have little or no response to laser or IPL hair removal treatment. These are so-called ‘non-responders’. There are no tests that can be carried out beforehand to show whether a person will respond or not. For this reason, you can decide yourself after three sessions if you wish to continue the treatment. Treatments already performed will not be refunded.
