Pigmentation removal with Laser/IPL
Treatment using a laser or IPL is an easy way of eliminating unattractive pigmentation spots or birthmarks. Pigmentation spots are caused by an accumulation of melanin. The spots can be so prominent that they can cause you to feel insecure about your appearance. A laser or IPL treatment can be combined with medical products or skin peel treatments by ZO Medical to give your skin an even tone again.
Kliniek aan de Maas is specialized in removing hyperpigmentation with laser or IPL. All treatments are performed in the safest possible way and with the best quality materials. Our employees are continuously trained to maintain their knowledge and skills. You have questions about a treatment? Make an appointment and ask your questions in a free consultation.
Function
Pigmentation spots or birthmarks can be treated effectively using laser or IPL treatment. The energy emitted by the laser or the IPL device is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmentation spot. The pigment is destroyed and brought to the surface. This results in a scab that falls off the skin within a few days.
Application
We use laser and IPL to remove pigmentation spots
Before treatment
Before treatment starts, an initial appointment is scheduled, free of charge, to determine the areas to be treated and the treatment method. You will also be informed about the care before and after the treatment concerned. For optimum results, we recommend not going out into the sun without using sun protection for six weeks before and after the treatment. Always use sun protection.
Aftercare
Straight after the treatment, the skin may be a little red and irritated. This sensation will disappear after a few hours. A scab may form. This scab will fall off a few days later – don’t pick it off. After the treatment, you can cool the treated area, but this is not necessary – it won’t affect the result.
Duration
The treatment takes 5-30 minutes. This depends on the area to be treated.
Results
The result of one treatment can be seen after a few days. On average, one to three treatments are required. At least three weeks are required between treatments. In the case of deeper pigmentation spots, it may sometimes be necessary to combine the treatment with medical products and possibly also a skin peel. The treated spots/birthmarks will not come back, but over time new pigmentation spots may develop. Sun protection is therefore very important.
Safety
This treatment has been used for decades and has been proven to be safe when performed by a practitioner with the appropriate knowledge and experience.
Pain
The pigmentation spots are treated with IPL or lasers. The treatment is not painless, but it is easily bearable.

The treatment can be performed on all skin types. In rare cases, a dark or light discoloration of the treated area may occur. This risk is slightly elevated in darker skin types and following exposure to the sun up to six weeks before or after the treatment. This discoloration generally disappears after three to nine months, but in rare cases it may be permanent.
